Papallas is a brand-new animated series for children, inspired by the legendary Papalla characters, iconic figures created by Armando Testa and featured in Rai’s Carosello in the 1960s. The Papalla were the round inhabitants of a distant planet who, with their distinctive humor and language, became part of the collective memory of generations of Italians. More than fifty years later, this unique universe comes back to life in a new animated series, reimagined for a contemporary audience of children while preserving the playful, humorous and visionary spirit that made the original characters so successful. Created and produced by Armando Testa, the series follows the adventures of three round friends — Pall, Pepper and Pillow — and their inseparable puppy, Pizza, as they embark on a journey around the world in search of their fourth friend, Puff, who has mysteriously disappeared. In each episode, aboard their Astropalla, the friends land in a variety of different places, enthusiastically exploring their surroundings and discovering a wonderful world populated by quirky characters and adorable animals, all of them a little rounder than usual. “The world is beautiful because it is round” is the concept at the heart of the series: a world without sharp edges, inclusive and positive. A joyful universe built on kindness, respect, teamwork and a desire to discover, perfectly reflecting the spirit of the project and bringing to life the sense of fun and light-heartedness that children love. In this way, Papallas carries forward the legacy of an icon of Italian communication history, bringing it into the present and transforming the original Papalla universe into a new narrative world designed to connect with today’s children and families. The animated series will debut on Rai’s children’s channels.
